Role Overview The Tax Director will lead and manage tax compliance for a publicly traded REIT, with primary responsibility for REIT qualification, partnership tax reporting, and multi-state compliance. This role is heavily execution- and review-focused, ensuring accurate and timely filings across a complex entity structure. Key Responsibilities
Manage, evaluate, and structure transactions to maintain REIT qualification
Manage REIT compliance, including preparation and review of quarterly and annual REIT testing and distribution requirements
Oversee preparation and review of federal and multi-state REIT and partnership tax returns, including tiered structures and operating partnerships
Review Schedule K-1s, allocations, and investor reporting
Ensure timely filing of REIT, partnership, and corporate tax returns, extensions, and estimated payments
Coordinate multi-state compliance, including composite filings and withholding requirements
Manage internal tax team and external tax advisors and review deliverables
Respond to tax notices, audits, and information requests
Partner with accounting, legal, and investment teams on tax-related inquiries and to ensure accurate tax reporting data
Position Requirements
8–10+ years of tax experience within public accounting and/or private industry, with emphasis on REIT and partnership tax compliance
Strong technical knowledge of REIT qualification rules and partnership taxation
Experience with multi-state tax filings and apportionment
CPA preferred
Combination of Big 4/public accounting and real estate industry experience strongly preferred
Strong Excel and tax compliance software experience
